Art By Silla

As an artist, Silla often describes being pulled between two worlds: medicine and art. With a bachelors degree in Studio Art and Psychology, they ultimately left the practice of art to pursue medicine in their early 20's.

The demand of medicine led to them abandoning art for nearly 20 years.
As a highly sensitive person, medicine has had a huge impact on their life. Finally returning to art, they use art to express the grief that they have held for 20 years in critical care medicine as someone who feels and hears so deeply. Working specifically in the field of organ procurement, they often say: “I feel like I’m holding the souls of a thousand people in my hands”.

Their art creates a tangible collision that speaks loudly of healing and curiosity. A visible journey of rediscovery in each piece. Silla has a unique way of using music to navigate memories by way of tone and color as they revisit the pain and grief they have witnessed. Texture and layers tell unspoken stories that are often better expressed visually. Additionally, as a writer, many pieces will include excerpts of pieces they have written to accompany the piece.

This is the journey of them returning to the pieces that remain and the discovery of the remnants they cannot yet see. Art is now the alchemy after they avoided the gravity of what they have seen and witnessed for 20 years. It speaks the words they could not find and the emotions they could not define.
